History

1920 - 1930

In Medellín, a group of visionaries founded the Compañía Nacional de Chocolates Cruz Roja based on the integration of small local producers, which later became Compañía Nacional de Chocolates S.A. During the following years we continued consolidating, improving the production processes and renovating the factories located in Cali, Bogotá and Medellín and installing a new one in Bucaramanga.

In 1933, the Compañía Nacional de Chocolates becomes a shareholder of the Noel Cookies Factory. Subsequently, with the acquisition of Chocolates Chaves y Equitativa, Santa Fe and Tequendama we began to consolidate ourselves in the market, and finally, we positioned the brands Corona, Diana and Tesalia.

1940 - 1950

Pablo Emilio Echeverri joins the Company, as the first colombian technician who provided his services to the Company. This carried out an important work of renovation of the industrial equipment and maintained the philosophy of product development according to the taste of the colombian consumer.

Chocolate is consolidated as the main drink of the urban and rural working classes.

1960-1970

During this decade, the Company began an active program to promote the cacao farming and to diversify its production. In 1961, the iconic Jet Chocolate was born, the first chocolate candy manufactured industrially in the country, and with it, we created the first album with its collections of trading cards. In 1968 we launched the Natural History Album, which became an important educational text for many generations.

Our Company turns 50 years old. Thanks to the program to promote cocoa farming, the national supply of the product increased considerably. We launched to the market the Chocolatina Jumbo and Chocolisto, the first chocolate powder drink to mix with milk.

1980-1990

With the new directions of the economy, the Company began in the 80s a continuous process of modernization and opening to external markets. We launched new products to the market: Wafer Jet, Combi Jet, Triki Jet, Coco Jet and Deli Jet, the first national treats based on cores covered with chocolate. During this decade Chocolyne was also born, the first sugar-free dietary chocolate, and we experienced a great renovation with Diana and Tesalia chocolates flavored with cloves and cinnamon.

Important agreements were established with foreign companies that allowed the arrival of our products to international markets. In 1995, we obtained the Orden de Boyacá in the Cruz de Plata degree.

We partnered with Compañía de Galletas Noel to create Novaventa S.A.

We obtained the Family Responsible Company certification, which accredits us as an organization that seeks a balance between the personal, family and work life of the employees. Likewise, we became the first company to receive certification as a Healthy Organization by the Colombian Heart Foundation.

2017

In 2017, the largest solar roof was installed in our Factory in Rionegro, Antioquia, and the second in the country. In the present, the chocolates, nuts and cereal bars that are produced in our Factory in Rionegro have an additional ingredient: the energy of the sun. Converting our pioneer plant into clean and friendly production with the environment in Colombia.

2020

We celebrate our first centenary! A historical fact that inspires us to continue contributing to the construction of a better world where development is for everyone.

In addition, we were recognized in Grupo Nutresa, for the second time, as the most sustainable company in the world in the food sector by the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices.
